The Bracelet...Pt. 4 by Philly
So I get back to the bar and the place was rocking!! It was a weekend
night and this was the only honky-tonk around. "Chief" was a very
polite and courteous man who just seemed to automatically earn everyones
respect without seeming to realize it. He probably did realize it
though. Everyone who came in the bar always spoke or made some kind of
gesture to acknowledge his presence and what I really liked about him
was he never made any kind of comment to me about who these people are
or what character flaws they may have. He didn't gossip. He didn't
talk bad (or good) about them. He didn't talk at all about them. He
(in my eyes) was a man's man and, brother, I was impressed!!
Anyway, Chief was sitting up there getting ripped (like I wasn't) and
was enjoying buying my drinks and seemed to be getting a kick out of
me. We clicked - there was no doubt. Not alot of in depth conversation
cause we could barely hear ourselves for the band and all the commotion
but we were comfortable. He would stand when he wanted to dance, hold
his hand out for mine and walk us to the dancefloor. The songs we
danced to were always slow. This man was solid!! Like I said, I
figured him to be around 50 years or so.
It was getting time for me to go and when I told him that, he asked me
what I was doing there. I told him I was out riding seeing the country
but that I really wished I had a four-legged horse to go up in the
backcountry in the mountains on for about a month. (I have always
dreamed of doing that ever since my first episode of "Bonanza") He
looked at me, pulled out a napkin, handed it to me and said, "Be at my
house tomorrow morning - we'll ride horse."
I got to hand it to him - Dude was smooth!! Apparently, while I was gone to set up my tent, he
had this move already planned!! All I could do is look at him, smile
and shake my head ok. He knew. He knew what he had just done for me.
The man was in tuned!!
