DEAR MUTHUH

NOTE: This is the reply from Mark Infield the same day - I think it is important to see the different perspectives other riders have about riding and bikers in general. I got no beef with Mark or Full Throttle - I like the rag. He points out some things that we should all keep an eye on...I just don't agree we're all obligated to roll up our sleeves and jump into the shitpile .....read on :

Muthuh,

I have never had any trouble getting Carla to return my calls, just left a message and she calls back when she gets time.

Nobody said that you OWED them anything. I am like you, I ride where I damn well please, but if you don’t see the tyranny of being discriminated against because you ride a motorcycle, you don’t get out much.

The deal in Asheville was a political fucking and my only point is that bikers stayed away because of “Bad Press” which came from the liberal press instead of showing up in masses to let the locals see that we want the right to get together and there isn’t any eminent danger to their wives and daughters. (You know, the same old stereotyping shit) The blacks have learned how to deal with the press and the govt., but the bikers haven’t yet.

I also am a back roads guy when I have the luxury, but if you guys that deny that there is any discrimination involved in being a biker don’t open your eyes soon. You will have to go through check points and render your “papers” at every county line to whom ever asks for them. (read Homeland Security)

Now don’t go out on a limb and tell me about all of your lawn chores right now because they aren’t relevant. The only issue here is the right and ability to travel and associate with whomever you want to whenever you want to – Basic freedoms that we are taking for granted and the govt. is taking away right and left, even faster than you realize from the tone of your e-mail. I don’t give a damn what you do, but when you see another biker broke down on the road, do you stop to help? Or just look the other way because you don’t want to be encumbered by his problems? That is what this was. These people jumped through all of the hoops and dealt with all the red tape and at the last minute they were held hostage by a sheriff who would not approve their security plan unless they hired his buddy for $60,000.00! They were forced to give back all preregistration money and give away the beer to meet the demands of this sheriff and ALE. It takes balls to go ahead on the faith that the bikers would come anyway and make a donation to help defray the costs. I hope that they didn’t lose everything that they have. BTW I have been to all the rallies that I care about. I don’t want anything that the vendors have and rarely buy anything except food and beverage at inflated costs. I go to see the people and associate with them.

We aren’t fighters and pukers either, but you are speaking out of both sides of your mouth if you tell people about how great it is to go on the rides you do and then ignore the responsibility to preserve those freedoms that we all so dearly love. Think about it. The only reason that I print some of the controversial things is to provoke people into thinking. Hopefully the end result will be activity, even if it is just writing back to me and expressing their opinion. I really want them to realize how much of this is going on and is swept under the carpet. I want to motivate people to call their representatives and demand an explanation. Bill Bish said something interesting in one of his last e-mails. It was along the lines of – if all of the motorcycle owners were active and voted, we could have EVERYTHING that we want because voter turnout is so low that we simply out number them!! What if it was your party (or one at Bull Feathers) and they pulled this kind of shit? Or if it was one of your bro’s that was run down by a patrol car? Wouldn’t you be out raged? I think so, but until you poke Americans in the eye with a stick, they aren’t interested in becoming involved. Then they say something like “if anybody with tyranny in their eyes knocks on my door, I just shoot ‘em and dump the body in the river out back.” All I am advocating is becoming pro active in the fight to KEEP THE FREEDOM WE HAVE.

If you aren’t interested, I respect your right to that position. I just know that I went to see first hand what was going on and believe me, they got fucked on both accounts!

Speaking of back roads, I am not a groupie, but there many who travel the highway. I will continue to try to raise awareness in the biker community even if I am criticized. I like taking the road less traveled. Enjoy the freedom to mow your yard any day that you want.......for the time being.

Fair enough… I’m not one to egg on a fight and I’m glad your response was civil…speaks well of ya. Consider myself poked in the eye. True; if Tom in Murrells Inlet was fucked over as your friends were then I’d get grumpy, too… can’t fight everybody’s battles, though, and I didn’t know these guys.

Yeah, I stop for bikes on the side of the road, (except if it looks like they ride with their bellies on the tank) and have changed a few tires for old guys in cages, too. I get out plenty but have just not faced the problems you see – but I know they exist…

Maybe it’s the trimmed beard, can’t-quite-tie-back the hair, and the fact that I ride a dresser that calms the citizens when I ride up – or maybe it’s the ex-cop, republican, and not-so-baaaad attitude, but whatever it is, tyranny and discrimination hasn’t been part of my riding experience.

My passion and advocacy lies with other concerns right now – there seems to be a lot of them needing attention these days, don’t it? – each of us can’t do everything, and even though Americans need the eye-poke now and then, it’s also true that we count on the fact that there’s enough of us to each take on a cause – we can’t do it all.

Because I’ve not been involved in motorcyclists rights doesn’t speak poorly of me, just as it doesn’t make you a slacker because you don’t spend your time fighting for my causes.

I like your passion for a scrap… [when I lose interest in my current causes], I’ll join the fight, too. Till then, maybe I’ll cover a Motorcycle Rights Organization rally and see if I can poke the other eye…

...and for the record - after being married 25 yrs - lawn chores are relevant as hell for the sake of domestic tranquility, you can count on that!.
