Day Seven.

Kim and I got up this morning to Coffee and Breakfast at my Dad's and set out early to go tour a little of the tornado devastation. At one point the State Troopers got a little pissed that we were cruising the side roads in the middle of the closed areas, so we didn't get many pictures, but what we say was incredible...and we weren't anywhere close to the real destruction. In this picture you can see what is left over of a car after being sucked up, spun around and bowled over the ground for who knows how long. From a distance it looks like a rock!

We were able to cross the path of the destruction three times as it angled through Oklahoma City, and followed I-44 for many miles to the southwest. The ride from there to Anadarko, the "Indian Capital of the Nation" was pleasant except for the incessant winds. All day we experienced constant 30mph winds which was givng us a beating with either headwinds or crosswinds most of the day - only when we headed north, with the winds to our back did it ease up and make the ride enjoyable. By the time we got home we were beat! This pic was taken alongside the road near Anadarko...the Bull reminded us of our friends Will and Lesa so Kim had a personal message for them......

That evening Kim and I toured downtown Oklahoma City and saw the aftermath of the Oklahoma City Bombing and the beginnings of the memorial there. The cyclone fence is still being inundated with flowers and signs and teddy bears. Dad says they clean off the fence every week and they still come to pay their respects. What was amazing to us was the distance surrounding the bombing that is still in destruction....building after building is still abandoned due to the severity of the destruction and many have been or are scheduled to be demolished and rebuilt. There were buildings 3 blocks away that are still windowless and slated for rebuilding...FOUR years later!

We had a severe T-Storm go through this evening, and I believe it is going to be an unstable few days here weather-wise, so I will be leaving on the bike and following Kim to the airport, say our goodbyes and keep on heading east on my return trip, trying to stay in the window of good weather between storms. See ya tomorrow night, it's going to be a long 500 mile day I think!
